Standing Firm In The Truth

SCRIPTURE: John 10:31-42

31: Then the Jews took up stones again to stone him.
32: Jesus answered them, Many good works have I shewed you from my Father; for which of those works do ye stone me?
33: The Jews answered him, saying, For a good work we stone thee not; but for blasphemy; and because that thou, being a man, makest thyself God.
34: Jesus answered them, Is it not written in your law, I said, Ye are gods?
35: If he called them gods, unto whom the word of God came, and the scripture cannot be broken…
42: And many believed on him there.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: STANDING FOR TRUTH MEANS REMAINING FAITHFUL TO GOD’S WORD

Jesus faced strong opposition because of His teaching and His claim concerning His relationship with the Father. Yet He did not abandon the truth or allow hostility to silence Him. This passage teaches us the importance of standing firmly for God’s truth, even when it is challenged.

The Jews picked up stones to stone Jesus because they considered His words blasphemous. Jesus responded by pointing them to the good works He had done and asking which of those works deserved their hostility (vv. 31–32). Jesus did not respond with fear or compromise. He continued to defend the truth of His identity and mission. He said, “The Father is in me, and I in him” (v. 38).

Standing for truth does not mean being quarrelsome. It means remaining faithful to God’s Word even when our convictions are questioned or opposed. Like Jesus, we should respond with wisdom and love.

The passage ends with Jesus crossing the Jordan, where many people believed in Him because of the testimony of John (vv. 40–42). Even when some rejected Jesus, others believed in Him. This reminds us that our responsibility is to remain faithful to the truth and faithfully proclaim God’s Word.

Truth may be challenged, rejected or opposed, but the follower of Christ must remain faithful. Stand firmly in God’s truth, live it consistently, and let your life become a testimony that points others to Jesus.

ASSIGNMENT
Be determined to stand faithfully on God’s Word.

PRAYER
Lord, give me courage to stand firmly in Your truth and never to compromise my faith.
