My Sheep Hear My Voice

SCRIPTURE: John 10:22-30

22: And it was at Jerusalem the feast of the dedication, and it was winter.
23: And Jesus walked in the temple in Solomon’s porch.
24: Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.
25: Jesus answered them, I told you, and ye believed not: the works that I do in my Father’s name, they bear witness of me.
26: But ye believe not, because ye are not of my sheep, as I said unto you.
27: My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me…
30: I and my Father are one.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: HEARING GOD’S VOICE REQUIRES A HEART THAT IS ATTENTIVE TO HIS WORD

The need to hear God’s voice and follow Him is essential for every believer because God’s voice gives direction, correction, protection, and purpose. Hearing His voice requires a heart that is attentive to His Word and sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit. However, hearing God is not enough; we must also obey and follow Him. When we hear His voice and follow His leading, we avoid wrong paths, experience His guidance, and walk securely in His purpose for our lives. Jesus makes it clear that His true sheep are those who hear His voice, know Him, and follow Him.

In a world filled with many voices, the believer must learn to recognise and obey the voice of the Good Shepherd. Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (v. 27).

Hearing the voice of Jesus is more than listening to His words; it means allowing His Word to guide our decisions, character and daily conduct. The Shepherd knows His sheep personally. This gives us confidence that we are never forgotten or abandoned. He also gives His sheep eternal life, and no one can snatch them from His hand (v. 28). Our security rests in His power and faithfulness. However, hearing the Shepherd requires a responsive heart. We must distinguish His voice from the distractions of the world, human opinions and our own desires. The more we remain in Scripture and fellowship with God, the more sensitive we become to His leading.
