Jehovah Jireh: The Lord Will Provide

SCRIPTURE: Genesis 22:9-14

9: And they came to the place which God had told him of; and Abraham built an altar there, and laid the wood in order, and bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood.
10: And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.
11: And the angel of the Lord called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.
12: And he said, Lay not thine hand upon the lad, neither do thou any thing unto him: for now I know that thou fearest God…
14: And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovahjireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: JEHOVAH JIREH REMINDS US THAT GOD SEES OUR NEEDS

Jehovah Jireh is a Hebrew expression meaning, the Lord will provide. It reveals God as the One who sees our needs and provides according to His will and purpose. Abraham had obeyed God and was prepared to offer Isaac. At the very moment when the sacrifice seemed inevitable, the angel of the Lord stopped him. Abraham then saw a ram caught in a thicket and offered it instead of his son.

In response to God’s miraculous provision, Abraham called the place Jehovah Jireh, meaning “The LORD Will Provide.” This teaches us that God may not provide according to our timing or in the way we expect, but He is always able to provide according to His purpose. God sees your obedience; Abraham went as far as building the altar, arranging the wood, and preparing to offer Isaac. His obedience was complete (vv. 9-10).

Just as Abraham was about to sacrifice Isaac, God called his name and stopped him. God was never absent from Abraham’s trial. He was watching all the way. When the appointed moment came, God intervened. Do not assume that God’s silence means God’s absence. Abraham lifted his eyes and saw a ram caught in the thicket. The ram became the substitute for Isaac. The provision was there, but Abraham had to look up and see it.

Sometimes, we become so focused on the problem that we fail to recognize what God has already placed within our reach. Look up to God who provided for Abraham; He will provide for you. In every season, Jehovah Jireh will make a way for you.

ASSIGNMENT
Spend time thanking God for being Jehovah Jireh.

PRAYER
Lord, open my eyes to see the provision You have already prepared for me.
