The Reward Of Obedience
SCRIPTURE: Genesis 22:15-24
15: And the angel of the Lord called unto Abraham out of heaven the second time,
16: And said, By myself have I sworn, saith the Lord, for because thou hast done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son:
17: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies;
18: And in thy seed shall all the nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice…
24: And his concubine, whose name was Reumah, she bare also Tebah, and Gaham, and Thahash, and Maachah.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: OBEDIENCE MAKES US CHANNELS OF BLESSING
Genesis 22 begins with a difficult test of Abraham’s faith and ends with a powerful reaffirmation of God’s covenant and promises. Abraham obeyed God even when obedience was costly. After the test, God spoke again and confirmed His blessing. The passage teaches us that obedience may be costly, but it is never wasted in God’s hands. God sees obedience, honours faithfulness, and can use one person’s obedience to affect generations.
The angel of the Lord called Abraham a second time and declared that because he had obeyed God, his faithfulness had been recognized (vv.15-16). Abraham’s obedience was not hidden from God. God sees the sacrifices that people may never see. You may obey God without immediate recognition or reward, but God never overlooks genuine obedience.
God reaffirmed His promise to multiply Abraham’s descendants greatly. The blessing was not merely material things. It was connected to God’s covenant purpose for Abraham’s life. When we obey God, we position ourselves to participate in what He has planned for us. God promised that Abraham’s descendants would become numerous and that they would possess the gate of their enemies. Abraham’s obedience affected people who had not yet been born.
Your obedience today can become a blessing for your children and future generations. Do not give up when obedience becomes difficult. Keep walking with God. What you surrender to God today may become a blessing for generations tomorrow.
