7: And she said, Who would have said unto Abraham, that Sarah should have given children suck? for I have born him a son in his old age.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: GOD’S REMEMBRANCE IS CONNECTED TO HIS PROMISE
Genesis 21:1–7 is a beautiful account of God’s faithfulness to Abraham and Sarah. For many years, Sarah had waited for the fulfilment of God’s promise of a son. Humanly speaking, the situation had become impossible. Abraham was old, and Sarah had passed the natural age of childbearing. Yet, “the LORD visited Sarah as he had said” (v. 1). When the Bible says that God remembered Sarah, it does not mean that God had forgotten her. Rather, it means that God turned His attention to her situation and acted according to His promise. God has not forgotten you. Your waiting season does not mean God has abandoned you. There is an appointed time for the manifestation of His promises. Sarah’s miracle was not accidental. It was the fulfilment of the word God had previously spoken.
When God gives a promise, circumstances may change, but God’s Word remains dependable. Do not measure God’s faithfulness by your present circumstances. Measure your circumstances by the faithfulness of God. There was a set time for Isaac’s arrival (v. 2).
Sometimes we become discouraged because God has not answered us when we expected Him to. But God’s delay is not His denial. There are things God has appointed for a particular season. When the appointed time comes, what looked impossible can happen suddenly. The God who remembered Sarah is still faithful today. He knows your situation, He knows your prayers, and He knows your appointed time. Therefore, do not give up because of delay. The God who promised can fulfill His word.
