From Physical Sight To Spiritual Sight

SCRIPTURE: John 9:35-41

35: Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?
36: He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?
37: And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.
38: And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him…
41: Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: SPIRITUAL EYES ENABLE US TO RECOGNIZE GOD’S TRUTH

After the man was cast out by the religious leaders, Jesus found him. Jesus asked whether he believed in the Son of God. The man wanted to know who He was, and Jesus revealed Himself to him. The man responded with faith and worship. He had received physical sight earlier, but now he received something even greater: spiritual sight. He came to recognize Jesus not only as his healer but as the Son of God. There are two kinds of sight presented in this passage. The man who had been physically blind could now see, but the Pharisees who had physical sight remained spiritually blind. Physical eyes can see people, places, and circumstances, but spiritual eyes enable us to recognize God’s truth and understand His work in our lives. The greatest miracle in this story was, therefore, not the opening of the man’s physical eyes, it was the opening of his heart to recognize and worship Jesus.

Sometimes, we can see many things physically but fail to see what God is doing spiritually. We may see our problems but fail to see God’s presence; see opposition but fail to see His purpose; see our limitations but fail to see His power. Jesus wants to move us beyond merely knowing about Him to personally recognizing, believing in, and worshipping Him.

The man began the story unable to see physically, but he ended it seeing Jesus spiritually and worshipping Him. The Pharisees had physical sight but failed to recognize the One standing before them. Lord, open our eyes that we may see You, know You, believe in You, and worship You.
