Building Yourself In Faith

SCRIPTURE: Jude 1:17-25

17: But, beloved, remember ye the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;
18: How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
19: These be they who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.
20: But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
21: Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life…
25: To the only wise God our Saviour, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: SPIRITUAL GROWTH REQUIRES INTENTIONAL EFFORT

The passage gives believers practical instructions for remaining faithful in a world filled with ungodly influences. Jude encourages us to remember the teachings of the apostles, build ourselves up in faith, pray in the Holy Spirit, keep ourselves in God’s love, and wait for the mercy of Jesus Christ.

Christian faith must be continually strengthened. Jude says, “But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith” (Jude 20). This means that spiritual growth requires intentional effort. We build ourselves up by studying God’s Word, praying in the Holy Spirit, walking in God’s love, and maintaining our hope in Christ. A believer who neglects spiritual growth can easily become weak and vulnerable to false teachings and ungodly influences.

Jude also teaches us to show compassion to those who are struggling in their faith. We are not called only to preserve ourselves but also to help others return to the truth and experience God’s mercy.

Ultimately, our confidence is not in our own strength but in God, who is able to keep us from falling and present us blameless before His presence with great joy. Building ourselves up in faith is a daily responsibility. As we pray, study God’s Word, remain in His love, and depend on His grace, we become stronger in Christ. And as Jude concludes, we can confidently trust in the Lord who can keep us from falling.
