God’s Purpose In The Midst Of Opposition
SCRIPTURE: John 11:47-57
47: Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.
48: If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.
49: And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all…
57: Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: DO NOT LET OPPOSITION DERAIL GOD’S PURPOSE
The opposition against Jesus did not frustrate God’s purpose; rather, it became part of the unfolding of His redemptive plan. Although the religious leaders plotted against Him, God used even their decisions to accomplish His greater purpose through Christ’s death and resurrection.
When God has a purpose for your life, opposition may arise, but it cannot ultimately cancel His plan. The raising of Lazarus created a strong reaction among the religious leaders. Instead of celebrating the miracle, they became concerned about their position. The chief priest and Pharisees gathered together and asked, “What do we? for this man doeth many miracles” (v. 47). Caiaphas then declared that it was better for one man to die for the people than for the whole nation to perish (v. 50). Caiaphas spoke prophetically, pointing to God’s greater purpose.
This teaches us that human opposition cannot cancel God’s purpose. What the leaders intended as a way to stop Jesus became part of the path toward the cross and the salvation of humanity.
Jesus also withdrew from public view and went to a place near the wilderness (v. 54). This shows that He acted according to God’s timing. He did not allow opposition to force Him outside the Father’s appointed plan. Opposition may arise, but God’s purpose remains unshaken. What appears to be a setback can become part of God’s greater plan. Therefore, remain faithful, trust God’s timing, and never abandon His purpose for your life.
